VPH: remarcan como fundamental convencer a los varones de colocarse la vacuna
La campaña busca disminuir la circulación del virus considerado una de las causas primarias del cáncer de cuello uterino, así como también prevenir las enfermedades asociadas al HPV en varones.
En lo que va de 2017, son 22 los varones de 11 años que se vacunaron contra el VPH en nuestra ciudad en el marco de la campaña que se está desarrollando en todo el país, a los fines de concientizar acerca de la importancia de suministrar esta vacuna.
Con el propósito de disminuir la circulación del virus considerado una de las causas primarias del cáncer de cuello uterino, así como también prevenir las enfermedades asociadas al HPV en varones, el Ministerio de Salud dispuso una modificación al artículo 1° de la Resolución Ministerial N°563 del 10 de mayo de 2011. Aquella disposición incorporaba al Programa Nacional de Control de Enfermedades Inmunoprevenibles con carácter gratuito y obligatorio a las niñas de once años.
Sucede que, de acuerdo a estadísticas de la propia cartera de Salud, el virus del HPV provoca en Argentina cerca de cinco mil episodios de lesiones de distinta índole a nivel uterino y aproximadamente 1.800 muertes al año.
En ese contexto, se prevé que la incorporación de varones adolescentes a la campaña no sólo "tendría impacto indirecto al disminuir la prevalencia de circulación del virus con consecuente disminución de la enfermedad en la mujer" sino que también evitaría para ellos el contagio de enfermedades asociadas al virus, como cáncer de pene, ano, boca o verrugas genitales.
Prevención temprana
El secretario de Salud de nuestra ciudad, Fernando Giacomino, resaltó la importancia de la colocación de esta vacuna en la población de niños a las que la misma va dirigida, al indicar que "la obligatoriedad es para todos aquellos niños a partir de enero de 2017 tal como lo dispuso el Ministerio de Salud de la Nación. Para eso estamos vacunando en la Asistencia Pública y hasta el momento la han recibido unos 22 niños en la ciudad".
Remarcó además la cantidad de vacunas colocadas hasta el momento porque "los varones son un poco reacios a colocarse una vacuna de este tipo, sobre todo porque el pediatra debe explicarles a sus padres que no le va a prevenir una enfermedad a él sino que en realidad no enfermará a las mujeres al momento de tener relaciones sexuales. Hay que destacar que el varón es el que transmite el virus de papiloma humano a las mujeres y por eso deben estar vacunados para evitar propagar esta enfermedad en las mujeres".
Giacomino explicó que por más que esta vacuna se recomienda a partir de los 11 años "se encontraron con que continuaban registrándose casos de chicos con el VPH. Por eso, para incrementar la cobertura se incorporó a los varones en el calendario de vacunación. En este caso resulta de fundamental importancia convencer a los varones de colocarse una vacuna para prevenir una enfermedad que ellos no van a tener pero que en caso de no vacunarse pueden ser los causantes de contagiar a la mujer con la cual tengan relaciones sexuales en el futuro".
Consultado sobre la colocación de la vacuna en las mujeres, Giacomino se mostró satisfecho por la aceptación que la misma ha tenido indicando que "también es muy buena la cantidad registrada. De igual manera que en los varones, se coloca a partir de los 11 años y esto es así porque la vacuna debe estar colocada al menos un año antes del inicio de las relaciones sexuales para que la misma haga efecto".
Dos medidas
-Las vacunas contra el VPH son seguras y eficaces. Pueden proteger a los hombres contra las verrugas y contra ciertos cánceres causados por el VPH. Lo ideal sería vacunarse antes de tener relaciones sexuales por primera vez.
-Utilizar preservativos cada vez que tenga relaciones sexuales puede reducir las probabilidades de contraer cualquier infección de trasmisión sexual. Sin embargo, el VPH puede infectar zonas no cubiertas por el preservativo.
