Una antigua técnica permite reutilizar la madera e inmiscuirse en el arte
Don Aldo Merlino colocó trozos de diferentes tipos de madera de pocos milímetros en las tapas de una mesa practicando la taracea, una antiquísima forma de dibujar y transformar objetos.

A don Aldo Merlino casi nunca se lo encuentra en su casa, es mejor ir directo al taller donde durante tantos años llegó a fabricar 200 guitarras por mes. Esa historia que comenzó cuando a los 19 cumplió su sueño de tener una marcó la vida de este hombre como un artesano y lutier de los más renombrados en toda Iberoamérica.
Actualmente ya no fabrica guitarras, esa tarea la dejó hace dos años y la trayectoria la continúa su hijo Alberto que lleva 30 años en el rubro y del que asegura "no hay ninguna diferencia" en las que confecciona.
De hecho, contó al pasar que dejó esa tarea porque "pensando que a su edad se puede disminuir la calidad del instrumento" y por ello la labor hoy la lleva adelante su hijo.
Don Aldo hoy tiene otra actividad de la que disfruta a modo de terapia, la cual se basa en la transformación de objetos a través de la técnica de taracea, una especialidad que cultiva desde hace muchísimos años y ahora explota a tiempo completo, podría decirse.
Qué es
La taracea es una técnica artesanal que se puede aplicar a objetos a través de la incrustación de piezas pequeñas de madera que en conjunto conforman un diseño.
"Hago trabajos con la técnica de taracea, una especialidad que viene del siglo XII y con eso sigo andando. Son todos trocitos de 4 milímetros cuadrados más o menos. Uno proyecta el dibujo, la va armando y va encolando", explicó.
Con la técnica - comentó Merlino - se construyen distintos dibujos con los colores de cada madera. No hay nada de pintura (aunque sí lo parezca) sino solo el encolado sobre la madera que forma la mesita y el trabajo.
El trabajo le resulta tan apasionante a Don Aldo que dijo que "nunca midió el tiempo que le llevó colocar esas más de 5.000 pequeñas piezas que por ejemplo contiene una de las tapas de su mesita". Eso sucede fundamentalmente porque no es una tarea comercial: "Así tengo la suerte de seguir trabajando, me entretengo y es como una terapia para mí".

Sin maestros
La virtud de la técnica es que es la misma madera la que llena de tonos el dibujo, por ende, las propiedades son naturales, así don Merlino expresó que las elige "en base a los colores". En su trabajo se ven las tonalidades de maderas provenientes de alerces, nogal, quebrachos, caoba, palos de rosa, infinidad que uno puede elegir.
"La técnica la aprendí en Buenos Aires, en la época de cuando nosotros fabricábamos 200 guitarras mensuales, ahí lo vi y saqué la forma. Jamás tengo un maestro, ni copié nada a nadie. Eso es una tranquilidad espiritual", resaltó satisfecho.
Don Aldo proyecta el diseño sobre la tabla y va armando el diseño con los trozos de las distintas tipos de madera.
Aprendizaje permanente
Entre sus obras también se encuentran algunos cuadros de los que resaltó a la sacristía de la Catedral de Padua y una imagen perfecta de la antigua Catedral demolida de la ciudad en base a una imagen que fue tomada dos días antes de que la demolieran.
No obstante, aseguró que con la técnica de la taracea se pueden hacer una infinidad de dibujos, y en su caso no utiliza un dibujo - en general - prefijado ni tampoco lo tiene en mente, solo surge.
Al final, uno podría pensar que Aldo siempre está muy concentrado en cada maderita, sin embargo, por la mente de ese hombre son otras las imágenes: "Siempre estoy pensando, antes de terminar lo que estoy haciendo, qué voy a hacer próximamente".
