Sugieren mejoras sociales, económicas y nutricionales para el bienestar de los mayores de 60
Se estima que la población de personas mayores pasará de los 5.7 millones que había en el año 2000 a 7.7 millones para el año 2025. Por primera vez, y quizás para siempre, habrá más personas mayores de 60 que menores de 14 años.
El envejecimiento poblacional es una realidad que presenta desafíos crecientes, por lo que requiere de un análisis profundo para determinar la implementación de políticas públicas concretas y promover que esos años de vida ganados sean saludables.
Días atrás se llevó adelante el encuentro científico sobre este tema titulado "Desafíos actuales para lograr un envejecimiento activo y saludable", convocado por la Universidad ISALUD y el Centro sobre Envejecimiento Activo y Longevidad (CEAL).
En diálogo con NA, la licenciada Silvia Gasc, Directora del CEAL, señaló: "Lo que hicimos fue presentar el objetivo del estudio, la información que disponemos acerca del estado de salud, la nutrición y la realización de actividad física de personas mayores para que tengan una vida saludable".
"Insistimos mucho en las enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles y vimos los hábitos saludables que ayudan a mejorar el estado de salud de personas mayores. Estamos preparando un estudio para poder insistir más en estas cuestiones porque durante la pandemia las personas mayores también restringieron la actividad física, muchos aumentaron y otros tantos bajaron mucho de peso", señaló.
"Hay que reforzar la importancia de recuperar hábitos saludables, ingerir proteínas para poder recuperar la masa muscular perdida y hay que hacer actividad física. Que las propias personas mayores tomen el control de la salud, decidir hábitos, consumir más frutas más pescados y legumbres y comer menos carne", expresó.
Gascó manifestó, además: "Es posible envejecer bien aún con enfermedades crónicas, buena alimentación, actividad física y tener redes sociales para contactar familiares y amigos".
Cuidados
Se estima que la población de adultos mayores de la Argentina (60 años y más) pasará de los 5.7 millones que había en el año 2000 a 7.7 millones para el año 2025 y llegará a 12.4 millones para 2050. Por primera vez, y quizás para siempre, habrá más personas mayores de 60 que menores de 14 años.
Por su lado, el doctor Manzotti indicó: "Las condiciones de salud en esta población se ven alteradas por enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles como las cardiovasculares, oncológicas, respiratorias, metabólicas y neurodegenerativas, en conjunción con síndromes geriátricos como los trastornos cognitivos, de la movilidad, la polifarmacia y la malnutrición".
Entre los trastornos digestivos, los síntomas más frecuentes reportados en el trabajo fueron: acidez, dispepsia, flatulencia, distensión abdominal, dolor abdominal inespecífico, hinchazón, dolor de estómago y estreñimiento.
La disminución de la secreción de saliva afecta a entre el 29 y 57% de los adultos mayores, con sintomatología de ardor y dolor bucal. Se destaca también que el 75% de los pacientes que sufrieron un ACV presenta riesgo de disfagia y 1 de cada 2 adultos mayores (53%) tiene mayor dificultad deglutoria.
A ese respecto, la profesional aclaró que el tratamiento de la desnutrición debe dirigirse a la causa subyacente, así como a su modificación dietética, sugiriendo proporcionar suplementos nutricionales orales para pacientes que no recuperan el peso, con ajustes en la preparación de las comidas.
"Estos son necesarios cuando la ingesta alimentaria no alcanza para cubrir los requerimientos nutricionales del individuo; aquellos ricos en proteínas son de elección en adultos mayores con úlceras por presión, en postoperatorios y con patologías oncológicas, y también para complementar la alimentación en condiciones crónicas o en enfermedades agudas cuando la persona no puede alimentarse adecuadamente con comidas", subrayó.
