¿Se suspenden?
El gobierno japonés reconoció privadamente que los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio, ya postergados en 2020 para realizarse entre el 23 de julio y el 8 de agosto del corriente año, tendrán que cancelarse definitivamente debido a la pandemia de coronavirus, y la próxima ventana que se le abriría a la capital asiática recién sería para 2032, publicó el medio inglés The Times.
Las autoridades japonesas buscarían, ante la suspensión definitiva, asegurarse al menos ese turno para dentro de más de una década, ya que hasta entonces las plazas disponibles están ocupadas por París en 2024 y Los Ángeles en 2028.
Según un importante miembro del gobierno japonés citado por el medio británico, ya existiría un acuerdo en tal sentido con el Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) sobre el punto.
Y esto se podría dar a conocer inclusive en la reunión que el próximo miércoles sostendrá el Consejo Superior del COI, que contará con la participación del dirigente argentino Gerardo Werthein.
En ese encuentro el tema aglutinante será encontrar la forma de anunciar la cancelación pero dejando simultáneamente abierta la posibilidad de que Tokio sea el receptor de los juegos dentro de 11 años.
"Es que nadie quiere ser el primero en decirlo, pero el consenso es muy difícil. Pero no creo que los Juegos se vayan a celebrar este año", le dijo una fuente del gobierno de Japón a The Times.
