Un iceberg de unos 5.800 kilómetros cuadrados, uno de los más grandes de la historia, se desprendió del segmento Larsen C de la Antártida, informaron este miércoles los científicos que vigilan su evolución.
En un comunicado, los expertos del proyecto Midas de la universidad galesa de Swansea indicaron que el desprendimiento se produjo entre el 10 y el 12 de julio, cuando el iceberg se separó del segmento Larsen C del continente blanco.
El iceberg, que se espera sea denominado A68, pesa más de un billón de toneladas, según Midas, y su superficie equivale aproximadamente a 25 veces la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (230 kilómetros cuadrados).
