"No es imposible”, afirmó Creevy
Los Jaguares llegaron a la ciudad de Christchurch para jugar la histórica final del Súper Rugby con la moral alta. "No es imposible. Venimos acá a ganar, no a ver qué pasa. Tenemos con qué y sabemos cómo", advirtió su excapitán Agustín Creevy de cara al duelo del sábado con los Crusaders neozelandeses.
"Crusaders es el mejor equipo del torneo y lo ha demostrado pero no hay imposibles en el deporte, ni en una final, donde trabaja mucho la cabeza y las presiones. Más allá de las virtudes de cada uno, la diferencia va a estar en la cabeza. Sabemos que es difícil, pero estamos convencidos y somos conscientes de a qué venimos", añadió Creevy, hooker de la franquicia argentina.
Los Jaguares han jugado dos veces ante Crusaders en el pasado, y en ambas ganaron los neozelandeses. En 2016 se impusieron en Christchurch por 32-15, para ganar de nuevo dos años después, en Buenos Aires, por 40-14.
Desde que Los Jaguares fueron incluidos en el torneo, en 2016, se ha enfrentado en catorce ocasiones a rivales neozelandeses. Tras perder sus siete primeros duelos, se rehízo ganando cinco y cayendo en dos. Agustín Creevy ha participado en doce de esos encuentros.
De igual a igual
"Enfrentar a las franquicias de Nueva Zelanda es especial. Son los equipos a los que mirábamos y seguíamos cuando arrancamos en este torneo. Hoy nos da mucha satisfacción enfrentarlos porque lo hacemos de igual a igual y entramos a la cancha a ganarles", afirmó Creevy.
"Podés ganar o perder, pero hoy estamos a la altura de los equipos de este país, cuando los enfrentamos sabemos que lo hacemos de igual a igual. Eso habla del crecimiento del equipo en el juego y en lo mental. Siempre se respeta mucho a los equipos de Nueva Zelanda, pero no lo vemos como un imposible. Las finales son 50 y 50, y seguramente el del sábado será un gran partido", añadió.
En la presente edición del Súper Rugby, el equipo argentino disputó cinco partidos contra equipos neozelandeses, ganando tres y perdiendo dos.
Creevy está en Los Jaguares desde su comienzo en 2016, siendo capitán las dos primeras temporadas, antes de pasarle el testigo en 2018 a Pablo Matera y en 2019 a Jero de la Fuente.
"Sabíamos que iba a llegar la oportunidad de estar en una final del Super Rugby. Tal vez, pensé que íbamos a tardar un poco más en lograrlo. Llegamos acá porque hubo una maduración de todos los que componemos Jaguares. Antes entrábamos a la cancha a ver qué pasaba y hoy somos conscientes que se pueden ganar todos los partidos. Cada año fuimos aprendiendo y madurando", explicó.
