Las “leyendas” del Hospital Iturraspe viven en las calles de la ciudad
El pasaje Sor Teresa Benages y Victorio Elkin son dos nombres que salieron a relucir en barrio San Francisco. Desde hace algunos días, el municipio puso todos los nomencladores en el sector en el marco de un proyecto que tiene más de 200 calles listas.

Desde 2018 el municipio trabaja en un proyecto de colocar nomencladores en toda la ciudad dado que hay zonas donde a las personas les es difícil ubicarse y no había presencia de carteles cercanos. Esta realidad se complejizó más con la extensión de algunas calles, el surgimiento de otras como consecuencias de las modificaciones en el ejido urbano.
En abril de 2018 desde la Secretaría de Infraestructura de la municipalidad habían anunciado la colocación de una primera etapa de nomencladores. Fueron un total de 64 carteles en las calles Iturraspe y Belgrano que permitieron tener a los vecinos en cada esquina el nombre y la altura en que estaban. Antes había que apelar a la memoria, a alguna señal y más acá en el tiempo, a Google Maps.
A julio de 2019 la señalización avanzó considerablemente, ya que se colocaron en otros barrios los nomencladores y superan los 200 marcando una diferencia notable. Esto permitió entonces que salieran a relucir nombres y datos. Como en barrio San Francisco, por ejemplo, con sus pasajes intermedios y las calles que antes era difícil asociar o encontrar y hacían pasar desapercibidas sus historias. Este es el caso de pasaje Sor Teresa Benages y Victorio Elkin, que están unidos por la medicina y los aportes que hicieron a la ciudad desde allí.
"Nacieron" el mismo día
Pasaje Sor Teresa Benages y Victorio Elkin son dos calles de barrio San Francisco que fueron bautizadas así el 31 de octubre de 1972 cuando Guillermo Peretti era intendente de la ciudad. El Concejo Deliberante de aquella época dio el visto bueno para que sus nombres estén en las calles de este sector sanfrancisqueño mediante la ordenanza 421 de aquel año.
Ella era una religiosa, obviamente como su nombre lo indica, pero además trabajó durante muchos años en el Hospital "J.B. Ituraspe". Lo mismo que Victorio Elkin, un destacado médico local que junto con Enrique J. Carrá y Tomás Areta son los que más antigüedad tuvieron en esta área en la ciudad.
Coincidentemente también los dos nacieron en otros países. Ella en España y luego ingresó a la Orden de la Inmaculada Concepción donde se ordenó como monja, y él en Moscú, Rusia, de donde llegó para radicarse en el interior de la provincia.
Aportes a la medicina
Sor Teresa llegó a la ciudad en 1920 e ingresó a trabajar en el Hospital estando a cargo desde entonces de la Sala de Hombres cuando Carrá era el director del nosocomio. Su hábito le permitió tener el visto bueno de las autoridades de también hacer su tarea evangelizadora allí.
Entre las anécdotas que recogió Alberto Navarro en su libro "Las calles de San Francisco", destaca que "solía albergar a escondidas a enfermos que daban de alta pero no tenían donde dormir ni qué comer".
El doctor Elkin, en tanto, fue un médico que también tuvo una importante actividad en instituciones sociales y deportivas. Con Carrá y Areta son tres de los nombres más destacados en el ámbito profesional.
Como médico ejerció su profesión durante más de 40 años en el Hospital, pero también resalta Navarro en su libro, fue primer presidente del Jockey Club local y uno de los promotores en su formación.
Sus familiares también contaron que cuando se casó no vino a San Francisco directamente pero fue el destino el que lo trajo. Luego de vivir en Tinogasta (Catamarca) iba a mudarse a Rafaela (Santa Fe) pero al pasar por acá quedó sorprendido de la fisionomía y por la calidez de la gente, por lo que se quedó aquí.

Más de 200
Desde 2018 progresivamente el municipio fue colocando nomencladores en las calles, actualmente se "equiparon" los barrios La Florida, Hospital, Parque y San Francisco. En tanto que parcialmente se cubrió la superficie de Hernández, Vélez Sarsfield, Sarmiento.
La idea del municipio es que en un hecho inédito para la ciudad todas las calles y esquinas - o su gran mayoría - tengan su propio nomenclador y altura.
