Bioseguridad en el ambiente y su impacto en la salud
La educación y la protección son clave para un trabajo más seguro y sano
“La bioseguridad del ambiente impacta en todos. Tenemos que tener un ambiente sano, en los lugares donde vivimos y en los trabajos. Lo más importante es prevenir utilizando siempre los medios de protección”, aseguró la doctora Nilda Gait, jefa del Departamento de Salud Ambiental del Ministerio de Salud de Córdoba.
La bioseguridad es el conjunto de principios, normas, protocolos y tecnologías que se implementan para evitar el riesgo para la salud y el medio ambiente. Ya sea en el trabajo o en el hogar, cuando nos exponemos a químicos o agentes biológicos causantes de enfermedades infecciosas, tóxicas o alérgicas, ponemos en riesgo nuestra salud.
Cumplir con las normas de bioseguridad es clave para minimizar el impacto negativo en nuestra salud y garantizar así un trabajo seguro y saludable. “La educación, la protección y la prevención son fundamentales para cuidarnos nosotros y cuidar a los demás. Hoy a veces se dejan de lado, pero son muy importantes porque si cada uno de los trabajadores lo cumple y da el ejemplo vamos a tener más gente sana”, aseguró a LA VOZ DE SAN JUSTO la doctora Nilda Gait, jefa del Departamento de Salud Ambiental del Ministerio de Salud de la provincia.
Gait visitó nuestra ciudad para brindar un panel sobre el tema junto al ingeniero Marcos Blanda, en el marco de la 16° Jornadas Provinciales y 1° Jornada de la Región Centro de Salud y Seguridad Ocupacional 2024 que se realizó este martes en el Centro Cultural San Francisco.
En la oportunidad se hicieron Demostraciones Prácticas del Departamento de Unidades de Alto Riesgo de la Policía de Córdoba (Duar). También en otros paneles, el licenciado David Niz, expuso la experiencia de la Mesa Cuatripartita Forestal en la Ciudad de Concordia, Entre Ríos; mientras que el ingeniero Luis Vaschuck de Santa Fe, se refirió a la experiencia del Comité Mixto en Santa Fe.
La doctora Gait remarcó que la bioseguridad del ambiente “impacta en todos y tenemos que tener un ambiente sano, en los lugares donde vivimos y en los trabajos que hacemos en general. Lo más importante es prevenir utilizando siempre los medios de protección. Muchas veces no los usan porque los comparten ya que no pueden comprarlos o les molesta pero es fundamental que todo el tiempo se usen las medidas de protección”.
“Es muy importante tener indicadores, o sea, poder medir si realmente uno se expone algo o no, porque podemos decir, me contaminé con tal producto y si no lo mido no puedo demostrarlo porque los síntomas pueden ser parecidos a otras patologías, podemos pensar que tenemos un resfrío o una alergia y es producido por un químico al que nos expusimos. Se deben seguir las cuestiones científicas, las evidencias para poder confirmar que nos intoxicamos, no podemos decir todo es un veneno si no hacemos análisis”, manifestó.
Gait advirtió: “No debemos olvidarnos que el cambio climático está produciendo alteración y más a los trabajadores los que pasan mucho tiempo en el campo, en el aire. Por ejemplo, el calor, las inundaciones, la sequía, los vectores influyen en las personas”.
“Quienes pasan más tiempo afuera tienen posibilidad de tener mayor acceso al mosquito que transmite el dengue, es importante protegerse, ponerse repelentes pero no abusar, ni buscar cualquier producto para ponerse, porque hay muchos que no son farmacéuticos y causan importantes cuadros dermatólogos”, ejemplificó.
Añadió que las excesivas olas de calor “también influyen porque hay trabajadores que tienen que ponerse mamelucos pero se lo sacan porque hace mucho calor y así, no se protegen. Hay que respetar las normas de protección para que podamos tener una vida sana y no tener problemas de impacto alto o crítico, que pueden llevar a consecuencias fatales”.
Gait explicó que la “susceptibilidad de cada uno y la protección son importantes porque no todos hacemos la misma reacción, cada persona puede hacer un cuadro más grave o no. Hay dos personas que se exponen a la misma cantidad de tóxicos pero tienen diferentes reacciones, uno puede tener reacciones más graves porque tiene problemas cardíacos o respiratorios, entonces no va a ser igual que la otra persona que está sana”.
“Existen mamelucos para los bomberos o la policía pero también otros que deben usar los trabajadores que fumigan, hay que usar la mochila, las máscaras, los guantes y las botas, no se puede trabajar con zapatillas porque se puede llevar la contaminación al hogar. La protección es fundamental para cuidar a todos”, finalizó.
