La bala con la que Rubén Scarafía dominó el país, presente en el Archivo Gráfico
Amigos e hijos del deportista, sanfrancisqueño por adopción y que fuera una de las figuras centrales a nivel nacional y sudamericano de lanzamiento de bala en la década del 50', donaron al AGM el objeto de bronce con el cual su padre entrenó hasta 1959.
Innumerables deportistas colocaron el nombre de la ciudad de San
Francisco en lo más alto de la escena nacional e internacional y uno de ellos,
sanfrancisqueño por adopción, fue Rubén Alcide Scarafía, quien en la década del
50' fue uno de los representantes más importantes del país en lanzamiento de
bala.
Justamente, el objeto central de esa disciplina, una bala de bronce de poco más de 7 kilos, con la que Scarafía entrenaba en nuestra ciudad de cara a los certámenes nacionales y sudamericanos, fue donado hoy al Archivo Gráfico y Museo Histórico de San Francisco y la Región, que lo lucirá en sus vitrinas.
Raúl y Patricia, hijos de Scarafía, que falleció hace exactamente 18 años en Campana, Buenos Aires, junto a Hugo Madonna padre y Julio César Bustos Brandán, amigos del deportista, hicieron entrega de la bala que por 60 años atesoró Madonna y que fuera entregada en manos de Rubén en 1959.
Visiblemente emocionado, Raúl, domiciliado en Campana y de visita en nuestra ciudad, agradeció a los presentes y aportó detalles sobre su padre quien a la par del deporte que practicaba, era empleado del Correo Argentino. Con el deseo de seguir creciendo en la disciplina atlética, en 1959 abandonó San Francisco y partió a Buenos Aires, con el objetivo de estar más cerca de la capital y mejorar su entrenamiento y competencia.
"Mi padre cuando era deportista era a su vez empleado del Correo Argentino. Por entonces decidió buscar un lugar cerca de la Capital Federal y como le agradaba pescar buscó un lugar que tuviera río y pidió el traslado del Correo. Tuvo para elegir entre Campana, Zárate y Escobar y se quedó con la primera", relató.
Por su parte, el director del AGM, Arturo Bienedell, brindó detalles sobre la labor deportiva de Scarafía, en una época en la que el fútbol y el básquet se llevaban todos los flashes.
"Era una época difícil para practicar atletismo. Scarafía se dedicó a hacer con mucho profesionalismo lanzamiento de bala. Trascendió a nivel sudamericano, fue una figura muy trascendente en aquel momento", dijo Bienedell.
Madonna, amigo de Scarafía desde la década del 50', relató: "Rubén aparte de ser un gran deportista era una gran persona. Mi relación con él data del año 1955, yo trabajaba al lado de su casa y lo veía entrenar todas las tardes".
Y agregó: "Antes del último Campeonato Argentino que ganó, yo lo acompañaba a entrenar todos los días. Cuando el parte de San Francisco, me dejó como obsequio esta bala reglamentaria que usaba para entrenar".
Desde 1959, Madonna atesoró la bala que su amigo le había obsequiado y a la cual "se le nota el repiqueteo propio del entrenamiento. Es de bronce y es un objeto de peso olímpico, de 7 kilos y 260 gramos", cerró.
Multicampeón
Rubén Alcide Scarafía nació en Colonia San Bartolomé el 2 de septiembre de 1924 y de pequeño se radicó en la ciudad de San Francisco, hasta que en 1959 partió con destino a Campana, Buenos Aires.
Fue campeón provincial, nacional e integró la delegación argentina que participó del Campeonato Sudamericano de Atletismo en Chile, en 1953. También representó a nuestro país en los Juegos Deportivos Panamericanos de México, en 1955.
