En cuatro años, 20 vidas fueron salvadas en nombre de Kevin
La familia Ghigo atraviesa el dolor de perder un hijo entregándose al servicio. Creó una ONG para prevenir la muerte súbita y hacer de San Francisco una ciudad cardioprotegida, con una población capacitada para realizar maniobras de reanimación cardiopulmonar (RCP). Hoy habrá una clase gratuita en el Teatro Mayo.
Desde que nació hace cuatro años, la Asociación Civil Kevin capacitó de manera gratuita a más de 12.000 personas en maniobras de RCP en nuestra ciudad, la zona y la provincia, en clubes, escuelas e instituciones. Gracias a esa enseñanza, fueron más de 20 las personas que lograron salvar su vida por la intervención de otros que aprendieron las maniobras de reanimación cardiopulmonar y atragantamiento.
Kevin no está físicamente, pero su legado está presente en el compromiso de toda la familia Ghigo de enseñarle a la comunidad que sus manos salvan."Sigue siendoél que nos impulsa y no nos deja bajar los brazos, porque seguimos luchando para que no haya otro Kevin en San Francisco", aseguró su papá, y presidente de la asociación, Mario Ghigo.
Kevin Ghigo tenía 18 años cuando murió, en 2014, tras sufrir un paro cardíaco mientras practicaba vóley en un club local. Desde entonces, sus padres y hermanos convirtieron el dolor en una iniciativa generadora de conciencia sobre la reanimación cardiopulmonar. Con el tiempo a la asociación se fueron sumando varios voluntarios.
La familia Ghigo transformó el dolor en una lucha por informar y capacitar gratuitamente a muchas personas -más de 12.000 en cuatro años-, para que estas puedan salvar la vida a otros y que no se tenga que lamentar otra muerte como le sucedió a Kevin.
Cuando iniciamos con esto,"nos dimos cuenta de que muy poca gente sabía qué era la RCP y que casi ningún club estaba preparado para esas situaciones. Y descubrimos que estaba probado que recibir esta asistencia a tiempo podía salvar vidas", contó.
En cuatro años dieron vuelta la cosa. No solo capacitaron a más de 12 mil personas sino que los clubes deportivos e instituciones públicas y privadas se sumaron y hoy conocen los procedimientos y adquirieron aparatología para utilizar en casos como síndrome de muerte súbita.
En tanto, Mario advirtió que "todavía falta mucho por hacer" y que están realizando gestiones ante la Legislatura de Córdoba para que se apruebe la ley Nº 27.159 que establece que todos los clubes y colegios deben contar con personal capacitado y un equipo desfribrilador. La normativa es nacional y la intención es que la provincia adhiera".
"Es necesario que toda la comunidad esté capacitada en estas maniobras, el RCP y las maniobras de Heimlich tendrían que ser una materia más en el colegio para que todos desde chicos aprendan y puedan salvar vidas. Falta trabajar mucho más para que la gente tome conciencia", dijo.

La técnica
La reanimación cardiopulmonar es una maniobra de emergencia consistente en aplicar presión rítmica sobre el pecho de una persona que haya sufrido un paro cardiorrespiratorio para que el oxígeno pueda seguir llegando a susórganos vitales.
El inicio inmediato de la maniobra por parte de alguien entrenado, aunque no sea profesional, puede aumentar en un 40 por ciento las posibilidades de supervivencia de los afectados. La capacitación es sencilla y está al alcance de todos.
Desfribriladores en todos lados
El papá de Kevin resaltó que la liga de Baby Fútbol sea la primera en el país en estar cardioprotegida ya que los 19 clubes que compiten cuentan con desfibriladores externos automáticos (DEA).
Mario añadió que sería"bueno que haya aparatos a disposición en toda la ciudad. En el centro no hay aparatos a disposiciónón, por ejemplo. Además, hay lugares que cuentan con el aparato, como en el caso de un banco, pero el personal no está capacitado para su uso".
En San Francisco rige la ordenanza Nº 5985 que fue aprobada en 2010 y que establece que todos los clubes e instituciones deportivas públicas y privadas"cuenten con un profesor , instructor y/o directivo que se encuentre capacitado en RCP (reanimación cardiopulmonar), desde el inicio hasta la finalización de las actividades diarias". La normativa también estipula que las entidades deportivas deben"requerir a los asociados y/o usuarios de sus instalaciones el correspondiente certificado de buena salud".
La vida en sus manos: "Conmigo no te vas a morir"
Una tarde cualquiera"Pepe" se encontraba caminando por el bulevar 9 de Julio, a metros del Museo de la Ciudad, de calle Avellaneda, sin tener la más mínima idea de que en unos instantes su vida estaba a punto de acabarse. Al menos eso hubiera pasado de no haber estado junto a Elda Bianco, una acompañante domiciliaria que le salvó la vida luego de aplicar los conocimientos en RCP.
Elda tomó contacto con la Fundación Kevin hace cuatro años, cuando decidió asistir a un curso de asistente prehospitalario y rescate. Allí aprendió todo lo relacionado con técnicas de reanimación y primeros auxilios.
A poco de recibir esa instrucción, Elda se encontraba realizando un paseo con Pepe, un paciente de una clínica psiquiátrica. En ese momento, el hombre, de 60 años, se atragantó y de inmediato, tras pedir auxilio para que alguien llamara a una ambulancia, ella comenzó a aplicar las maniobras que había aprendido.
En el mismo lugar de la foto, Elda Bianco actuó en un caso de atragantamiento y le salvó la vida a un hombre de 60 años. Esto le despertó la vocación de ser enfermera.
"Desde un primer momento me mantuve en calma mientras le decía a Pepe'conmigo no te vas a morir' porque lo que aprendí lo tengo que poner en práctica ahora", recordó y así lo hizo. En principio le practicó la maniobra de Heimlich, un procedimiento de primeros auxilios para desobstruir el conducto respiratorio, normalmente bloqueado por un trozo de alimento o cualquier otro objeto. Es una técnica efectiva para salvar vidas en caso de asfixia por atragantamiento.
Una vez que logró desobstruir la vía respiratoria, Pepe se desvaneció."En ese momento tuvo un paro cardíaco y allí fue que comencé a realizarle RCP", indicó Elda.
"En un momento que estaba haciendo las maniobras pasó una enfermera y me tocó el hombro para avisarme que me iba a ayudar. Ella hacía las insuflaciones y yo las compresiones. Entre las dos logramos sacarlo con vida" hasta que llegó la ambulancia y lo trasladó hasta un centro asistencial para su recuperación.
Al día siguiente, Elda fue a visitar a Pepe a su lugar de recuperación y allí, el paciente le agradeció por todo lo que hizo para salvarle la vida."'Yo vi la luz', me dijo emocionado. Eso me hizo sentir muy feliz porqueél puede seguir disfrutando de su familia, de sus nietos".
Esta experiencia inolvidable motivó a Elda a acercarse aún más a la Fundación Kevin donde se desempeña como instructora. Además está próxima a recibirse de enfermera.
"Si bien en ese momento yo era enfermera auxiliar, después de esto me decidí y empecé a estudiar la carrera. En estos años pude hacer un trayecto muy lindo junto a la ONG que me abrió sus puertas", confesó.
El bombero doblemente héroe
Sergio Rivadero es bombero voluntario retirado y asistente sanitario de 47 años que trabaja en la División Seguridad de la Sociedad Bomberos Voluntarios de San Francisco.
Sergio recibió la capacitacióin en RCP durante su formación como bombero la que luego perfeccionó junto a la Asociación Kevin. Además participó de una capacitación con el Grupo Especial de Rescate y Salvamento (Gers) donde obtuvo la quinta mejor calificación que lo mantiene hasta ahora como monitor de esa institución.
En uno día cualquiera de trabajo tuvo que enfrentarse al momento más intenso de su vida como el de salvarle la vida a la pequeña Valentina, de 2 años, que había sufrido una indisposición que le provocó un paro cardíaco.

Ese día recordó que "mientras estaba trabajando entró una niña de unos 11 años pidiendo ayuda porque decía que necesitaba un bombero. Mis compañeros se acercaron para ver qué ocurría y vieron que en el interior de un auto estaba la mamá de esta nena junto a otra más pequeña, de 2 años. Cuando me acerqué, vi que la niña tenía signos visibles de cianosis (coloración azul de la piel y de las mucosas que se produce a causa de una oxigenación deficiente de la sangre, debido a anomalías cardíacas y también a problemas respiratorios). Tras constatar que no tenía pulso, traté de liberar la vía respiratoria y darle masajes cardíacos y a partir de eso, luego de unos 15 masajes reaccionó enseguida", recordó Sergio con la misma adrenalina que vivió ese momento que lo marcó para siempre.
Tras comprobar que Valentina se encontraba bien y en manos de los médicos que continuaban con su recuperación, Sergio dijo que"sentí una gran alegría, algo indescriptible que no me cabía dentro mío".
"En pocos segundos me pasaron los cuatro años que recibí capacitación en esa técnica, fue algo muy intenso", siguió.
El momento de urgencia que se vivió en torno a la reanimación de Valentina no permitió que su madre pudiera agradecerle de inmediato a Sergio por todo lo realizado. No obstante, días después, este"salvador" recibió un mensaje a través de Facebook y desde entonces, el contacto nunca se perdió.
