El Hospital en “vigilancia epidemiológica” por el sarampión
Autoridades sanitarias piden que se notifiquen síntomas de fiebre y erupción. En el país hay 35 casos confirmados. También solicitan actualizar el carné con la triple viral.
En el país se confirmaron 35 casos de sarampión, más del doble que el total del año pasado, por lo que es extrema la preocupación en los hospitales de las distintas provincias. En el caso de Córdoba, activaron la vigilancia epidemiológica para tomar todas las precauciones necesarias.
Desde el Hospital Regional "J. B. Iturraspe" se informó que están "en alerta" aunque destacaron casos de sarampión hasta el momento. En tanto, se estudian casos sospechosos, que luego son descartados por los resultados de los análisis.
La directora del área de Epidemiología y vicedirectora del Hospital Iturraspe, Verónica Pepino, brindó un panorama muy detallado respecto de las tareas que llevan adelante en el centro de salud para mantener a la comunidad a salvo de esta enfermedad.
Pese al crecimiento en el número de casos a nivel nacional descartó que se estén colocando dosis extra de la vacuna contra el sarampión porque "no corresponde". Mientras tanto, se realizar una "revisión integral" de los carné de vacunación.
"Tratamos que todos los niños que tienen un año de vida cuenten con una dosis de vacuna colocada mientras que aquellos que están comprendidos entre 1 y 5 años deben contar con dos dosis", recordó la doctora en diálogo con LA VOZ DE SAN JUSTO.
Paralelamente a ello, en el Hospital -que al igual que la Asistencia Pública funciona como centro vacunatorio- controlan el estado en que se encuentra el calendario de vacunación de toda la población.
Pepino explicó que más allá de la población infantil "estamos insistiendo en que los adultos hasta los 55 años tienen que tener dos dosis de vacunas colocadas".
"En toda la provincia de Córdoba llevamos a cabo una intensa vigilancia epidemiológica", señaló para luego advertir que en casos de recibir a un niño con cuadro febril y erupción en la piel de color rojizo más o menos extensa "se hace una denuncia telefónica inmediata a las autoridades sanitarias provinciales, se llena una planilla con sus datos personales, se toman muestras de orina, se realiza un isopado faríngeo y eso parte al Laboratorio Central de la Provincia".
Paralelamente a ello, las autoridades sanitarias intervienen en el caso y solicitan la entrega de los carné sanitarios de todo el grupo familiar para hacer un control y se realiza a la madre un interrogatorio epidemiológico.
"Con esos datos se toma contacto con el contexto donde se desenvuelve ese niño y se hace un monitoreo de cobertura en la zona donde vive".
Recomendaciones antes de viajar
La médica recomendó que todas aquellas personas que estén por hacer un viaje a alguna zona considerada de riesgo de contraer sarampión, deben vacunarse.
El brote de sarampión se extendió por 19 estados en Brasil. Para los viajeros mayores de 13 meses, se recomienda que cuenten con al menos dos dosis de vacuna triple viral.
De no contar con las dos dosis recomendadas, la vacuna debe ser aplicada como mínimo 15 días antes del viaje.
Los niños de 6 a 11 meses que viajen a áreas de circulación viral activa, deben recibir una dosis de vacuna triple viral. Esta dosis no debe ser tenida en cuenta como esquema de vacunación. Se administrarán las dosis correspondientes al Calendario Nacional de Vacunación al año de vida y al ingreso escolar.
En casos de niños menores de 6 meses de vida, se sugiere aplazar y/o reprogramar el viaje puesto que en ellos la vacuna triple viral está contraindicada.
No obstante, Pepino dijo que "la mayoría de los niños están vacunados" y resaltó la campaña realizada en nuestra ciudad durante 2018.
Vacunación. En el Hospital Iturraspe se vacuna los días martes y jueves de 7 a 13.30, por orden de llegada.
Qué saber y qué hacer
El sarampión es una enfermedad viral altamente contagiosa y que no tiene tratamiento. Si bien la mayoría resuelve la infección en forma espontánea, en algunos casos puede llevar a complicaciones muy serias. Se contagia a través de la tos y los estornudos y el virus puede vivir durante dos horas en el aire donde una persona infectada haya tosido o estornudado. Los síntomas iniciales, que suelen aparecer entre 8 y 12 días después de la infección, consisten en fiebre alta, secreción nasal, coloración roja en los ojos y pequeñas manchas blancas en la cara interna de la mejilla. A los 5 días aparece un exantema (sarpullido o rash) y puede complicarse con neumonía grave y /o encefalitis (infección del sistema nervioso central). Puede ser peligrosa sobre todo para los bebes, niños pequeños y en personas inmunocomprometidas.
El último caso local en Argentina se registró en el año 2000, desde entonces se produjeron pequeños brotes asociados en general a viajeros o casos importados. Durante este año se documentaron 35 casos, lo que representa el mayor brote de los últimos 20 años. Existe también una alta circulación del virus en algunas áreas de Brasil, con más de 4.500 casos y 5 muertos, también en Venezuela, Europa y Estados Unidos.
La mejor manera de protegerse contra el sarampión es vacunándose con la vacuna triple viral (paperas, sarampión y rubéola), o con la doble viral (sarampión y rubéola)
La vacuna se aplica a todos los niños a los 12 meses de vida y al ingreso escolar.
A fin de frenar el brote de sarampión se requieren que todos los trabajadores de salud (independientemente de la edad) y todas las personas nacidas después del año 1965 hayan recibido estas 2 dosis de vacunas:
- Los niños de entre 12 meses y cuatro años deben tener una dosis de triple viral.
- Los mayores de 5 años deben tener dos dosis de vacuna doble o triple viral.
-Todo personal de salud debe acreditar dos dosis o demostrar que está protegido ( o sea tener IgG positiva en sangre para sarampión).
Se recomienda que:
- Los bebés entre 6 y 11 meses de vida inclusive, deben recibir una dosis de vacuna triple viral
- Los niños entre 13 meses y hasta los 4 años inclusive, deben tener dos dosis de vacuna triple viral
En cuanto a los síntomas, si una persona presenta fiebre y erupción cutánea se debe consultar inmediatamente al médico y no concurrir a lugares públicos hasta que el médico lo autorice.
