Azarenka pide "empatía" a los tenistas que cumplen cuarentena
La tenista bielorrusa Victoria "Vika" Azarenka, exnúmero uno del mundo y dos veces campeona del abierto de Australia, solicitó "empatía" a los jugadores, entrenadores y colaboradores que permanecen aislados en cuarentena en Melbourne, a raíz de la detección de varios casos positivos de coronavirus, en las semanas previas al inicio del primer torneo de Grand Slam de 2021.
La tenista bielorrusa Victoria "Vika" Azarenka, exnúmero uno del mundo y dos veces campeona del abierto de Australia, solicitó "empatía" a los jugadores, entrenadores y colaboradores que permanecen aislados en cuarentena en Melbourne, a raíz de la detección de varios casos positivos de coronavirus, en las semanas previas al inicio del primer torneo de Grand Slam de 2021.
El pedido de Azarenka, nacida en Minsk hace 31 años, llegó luego de que varios tenistas se quejaran a través de las redes sociales de la cuarentena que llevan adelante en un hotel de Melbourne, luego de haber arribado a la ciudad en vuelos provenientes de Abu Dhabi, Los Angeles y Doha, en los que se detectaron casos positivos del personal de la tripulación.
"Les pido a los tenistas, entrenadores y a todos los que vinieron a participar del Grand Slam y se encuentran en cuarentena un poco de cooperación, comprensión y empatía hacia los australianos, que también tuvieron muchas restricciones muy exigentes que no eligieron y que han perdido a sus seres queridos y sus trabajos durante la pandemia", expresó "Vika" Azarenka, campeona del abierto australiano en las ediciones de 2012 y 2013, en sus cuentas de las redes sociales Twitter e Instagram.
"Entiendo la frustración que significa estar encerrados en un hotel, es una situación difícil que a mi también me toca atravesar. Estamos atravesando una pandemia y nadie tiene el manual de cómo operar sin cometer errores", añadió Azarenka, ganadora de 21 títulos en su carrera y actualmente en el casillero 13 del ranking mundial de la WTA que lidera la australiana Ashleigh Barty.
En Melbourne hay 72 tenistas bajo estricto aislamiento en sus habitaciones de hotel durante 15 días porque llegaron en vuelos con personas que dieron positivo en coronavirus.
Esos tenistas, entre los cuales se encuentran los argentinos Juan Ignacio Londero y Guido Pella, y el uruguayo Pablo Cuevas, no pueden entrenar fuera de sus habitaciones, mientras que los demás que llegaron a Melbourne en otros vuelos, como el caso de Diego Schwartzman o el suizo Stan Wawrinka, sí pueden hacerlo.
